The BEST of a Great Lineup!

Will and I had a great tasting last week with one of our top distributors. They were making the rounds with an importer of very high quality Italian wines from some leading suppliers. What was most impressive, however, was not the performance of the most expensive selections, but the high level of quality across all price points. The wine we’re offering today is a mid-priced selection that blew us away — after tasting it Will and I both guess that it cost about double what it’s priced at…

From the renowned estate of La Spinetta in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy, the 2007 La Spinetta Langhe Nebbiolo was incredibly impressive. The Nebbiolo grape grown in the Piedmont makes the exceptional Barbaresco and Barolo red wines that are beloved the world over — Italy’s equivalent of France’s Bordeaux, these wines have incredible depth and class, with the ability to improve with age for decades. This wine from La Spinetta is made from declassified Barbaresco fruit, from young vines that they decided not to include in their much more expensive bottlings. My very brief, cursory notes from the tasting say “killer stuff,” “great concentration and balance,” and “chewy tannins on the finish.” There are no public tasting notes yet published on this wine, but I did see that Parker’s guy gave the 2005 and 2006 vintages of it each 90 points, and 2007 is generally regarded as a better vintage than both in the Piedmont so I have high hopes for where this wine will ultimately be scored.

Country Vintner does a lot of business with this particular importer, so we’re able to offer this wine at a pretty aggressive price that offers a fantastic value:

2007 La Spinetta Langhe Nebbiolo

If you’re new to Nebbiolo and want to check out what the fuss is all about, or if you loved the 2007 Vajra Nebbiolo we recently offered (or perhaps missed out on that one), you really owe it to yourself to grab some of this — I think you’ll love it as much as we did…
