There will be no Beaujolais Nouveau offered this year as 2009 is being said to be the greatest Beaujolais vintage ever.

The 2009 vintage in Beaujolais is showing signs of being a historic one that will undoubtedly be celebrated by producers and wine lovers alike for years to come. Dominique Capart, winemaker and President of Inter Beaujolais said, “This vintage will only get better with age. Fifteen years from now you will still be able to enjoy the pleasure and magnificence of 2009.”

Why not then drink the best. Back in Spring I pre ordered some Cru Beaujolais at a tremendous pre buy price offer and they have just arrived. These are the Cru wines from Georges Duboeuf. Sure he is the biggest name in Beaujolais. He still often makes great wine and in this vintage at these prices I could not resist.

I picked what I thought were the top four wines based on some of the reviews I have read. I only brought in a small amount of each. My thinking was that this would be a great time for folks to learn something about the Cru designations in Beaujolais. A tasting of different Cru from the same grape in the same region is a great way to learn what the French mean about Terroir and why they name there wines by the village and not by the grape as we do.

Why is Beaujolais the perfect Thanksgiving wine? It is inexpensive so you can put as much out for your large family as you wish without thinking about it. It drinks better young. The flavor profile of Beaujolais makes every sip taste like you have added a touch of Cranberry sauce to every bite of food you follow it with. It is the perfect accompaniment to all the flavors on the classic Thanksgiving table.

So here we have four different Cru level wines. To know a little more about the differance I suggest you check out the Beaujolais web site: http://www.beaujolais.com/

My personal suggestion is to buy at least 1 of each, open and put them all on your table and add a little judging discussion to your dinner table on Thanksgiving day. It can be a lot of fun and a great way to learn more about wine.
