The Wine Advocate gave this one 92 points. Let’s just get that out of the way first. This is a Biodynamicaly produced wine by Valle Dell’Acate and is every bit of what the new geek wine movement would refer to as a “real wine.” A funny thing because the Advocate and the new geek wine movement rarely agree.

The bottling is the 2008 Cerusuolo di Vittoria and it is a blend of 70% oak aged Nero d’Avola and 30% stainless steel aged Frappato. The wine is silky-smooth with excellent full and chewy texture. At the price point this is one of the most interesting things I have seen coming out of Sicily (Second only to the beloved Occhipinti which we have offered before). This wine is an instant classic, elegant and yet approachable capturing all the sun dried fruit of Sicily and yet achieving a cool note of balance that gives the wine its full dimension. The delivery is long with a suave finish of subtle dark fruit and anise. A fantastic wine that could stand up to many Tuscan wines of its caliber.

The best thing is the Cerusuolo di Vittoria is about half the price of comparable wines from the more sought after regions of Italy. Fantastic food wine, excellent on it’s own, a happy new find with high recommendations.
