Tis the season and Champagne is needed! We are proud to offer one of our all time favorite Champagnes to you for the Holidays this year. Last year it was a Defcon 5 wine for us, it still is this year! I have included the notes from ’09 and ’08 below to show you how much we consistently find this the finest values Champagne available.

The importer is basically bringing this wine in specifically for us as it is an under the radar Champagne that only the true devotees know to seek out. Another thing to notice is that the price has not increased for us over the years because of our devotion.

And so I present: Lancelot Royer, NV ‘Cuvee des Chevelier’ Blanc des Blancs. Cremant.

“Don’t wait for a special occasion to drink Champagne, opening the bottle makes any occasion special”

This Champagne is from the town of Cremant. Not to be confused with the term Cremant that has been stolen by many other producers of sparkling wine: Cremant de Alsace, Cremant de Bourgogne etc… They have stolen this towns name specifically because of the prestige of Champagne making that goes on in this village. More specifically applied to the tininess of bubbles that gives Cremant the rich, creamy elegance that its name so marvelously invokes.

The Lancelot Royer contains all of this. It has been a favorite Champagne for us for quite some time. Last year we were told that the wine would no longer be imported into the States. We complained, we grumbled, we freaked out a little but had no word on the wine. Our rep for the distributor insisted from his company that they bring in some more for us.

This is a perfect Champagne at an unbelievable price. It pantses 90% of the Champagne I have had at double the price.

I can not speak highly enough of the wine. I will include that Tanzer gave it 91 points. Other than that all I can tell you is that we at the Guild believe it is one of the best in its class (NV Champagne). It will not last long.

NV Lancelot-Royet. Brut Blanc de Blancs. a Cramant.
“The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Cuvee des Chevaliers is a delicious, beautifully balanced Champagne layered with perfumed apples, pears, flowers and spices. The wine reveals gorgeous inner perfume and impeccable overall harmony in a crisp, mid-weight style ideal for raw fish and light seafood dishes. The finish is long, clean and refreshing.” Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate Score: 91

Surrounded by 100% grand cru vineyards, the tiny Champagne village of Cramant is a hidden gem—which is exactly why we are devoted fans.

Domaine Lancelot-Royer nurtures its great vineyards in the heart of this chalky, terroir-driven town, and since the 1960s has been crafting vinous Champagne from 100% Chardonnay grapes.

We’ve been working with family winemaker Michel Chauvet since the early 1990s, who too shares our uncompromising vision for quality Champagne.

Our selection, the non-vintage “Cuvée des Chevaliers,” is a 100% Chardonnay wine that is aged much longer on its lees (on average 3 1/2 years) than the family’s regular blend. This process gives the wine added complexity, texture and breathtaking depth—with just a few opalescent strands of tiny bubbles.

Our selection too is always disgorged just before shipment—practically to order—to ensure that you enjoy the freshest, most vibrant bottle of Champagne possible.

“Pale yellow in the glass, with gold flashes. Pin-point bubbles. Elegant perfumes of wildflower honey and lemon zest, just dabbed with butter, remind us of Puligny-Montrachet. Very spicy and toasty in the mouth, with exotic Spice Island notes of nutmeg, cinnamon and hazelnut toast. Fabulous length; lime zest and sparkling minerals follow through on the lengthy finish. Enchanting.” -North Berkeley website

“This is a superb Blanc de Blancs from a small producer. Yellow gold in color with a green tinge, this Champagne displays a classic yeasty nose and has rich flavors and spice. It also offers good acidity and balance with lingering flavors of nutmeg, cinnamon, and lime on the finish.” -iWineReview 91 pts

This is my house Champagne. Elegance in a glass. A great wine with which to ring in 2008.
