Hello Everyone, (Don’t forget to read the Soave not below this e-mail)

The 2008 Pelissero Dolcetto is not only a great value for top Piedmontese wine but it is one of the more interesting styles I have had in the elegant wine category for a long time.

Azienda Agricola Pelissero is a family-run vine-growing estate located in the district of Treiso, in the heart of the zone of production of Barbaresco.

Lets break down wines into rustic or elegant for the time being. Last week I was thrilled by a wine that was really impressive in the rustic category, this week it is an elegant wine that draws my attention. If you are unfamiliar with Dolcetto this is a text book bottling. The fruit is cool, firmly laid with good tannic body, deep in color and in flavor.

The Pelissero family takes care of all the activities from pruning the vines to marketing the wine. The estate consist of twenty hectares of vineyards which yield a total of 80,000 to 100,000 (according to the year) bottles of wine, namely Dolcetto d’Alba from two vineyards (Munfrina and Augenta), Barbera d’Alba Piani, Barbaresco, Barbaresco Vanotu (this is the dialectal word for the name Giovanni, Giorgio’s grandfather), Grignolino, Favorita,

This is certainly a wine from the Barberesco region taking its power and complexity from the top wines made at the estate with the almost Burgundian elegance and nuance that the Piedmonte region mirrors. Add the ripeness of fruit that is specific to the Dolcetto grape and you have the wonderful, full bodied and approachable elegance that is this vintage of this wine.

We have offered the wine before, last year I believe, it is better in this vintage, a no brainer for every palate type, food or no food, this is a great Northern Italian wine.

Ok so about the Soave. You remember the Pra Soave that Kevin was so excited about from Monday? That is the top bottling from the estate and I concur it is an amazing wine. Well the basic Soave Classico from Pra is also a great wine in its class. We have sold it almost every year because of its consistent value and quality. Well it just got a 90 point score from the Wine Advocate and it is flying off of the shelf. If you did not pull the trigger on the top bottling I highly recommend trying this baby as it is a tremendous QPR for Guild members. Review and price below:

The 2009 Soave Classico opens with gorgeous aromatics that lead to crisp, beautifully articulated fruit. The persistence, balance and clean, minerally finish add up to an absolutely delicious bottle of Soave. Needless to say, it is highly recommended. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2013.

Pra’ is one my favorite producers in Veneto. These wines all deliver considerable quality for the money.

90 points, Antonio Galloni

So far it’s the best rated Soave for the 2009 vintage from The Wine Advocate!
