Rather than waxing poetic and philosophical with this offer, I’m going to keep this one short and to the point.  Feudi San Gregorio is one of my favorite wineries in all of Italy.  Located in Campania, they offer a variety of red and white wines from base-level cuvees to $100 a bottle luxury wines, all of which offer generally solid value at whatever the price point.  I’ve bought and cellared probably 6 different wines from them over the years, and I have 4 different bottlings in my cellar currently.  Suffice it to say, I’m a fan.

Over the holidays one of our best distributors offered us a wonderful Christmas present — an email with a handful of closeout offers.  Imagine my surprise when a couple of the wines were from Feudi San Gregorio (not the kind of thing you typically find on closeout).  Imagine my further surprise when I recognized one of the bottles offered as a wine that a restaurant owner in town had been raving about to me just a few days before (and at full restaurant pricing).

So what is it?  The 2007 Feudi San Gregorio Rubrato.  This red wine is made of 100% Aglianico, a fruity, spicy little grape than reminds me of our native Zinfandel.  Here is my just-composed CellarTracker note:

1/5/2010 rated 89 points: Medium ruby color. Nose of ripe strawberries and milk chocolate. On the palate, the fruit profile is darker, with lots of anise, a healthy dose of oak and hints of clove. Moderate finish featuring anise. Tasty, spicy and great with food, this is a solid wine and great value.

This is a fantastic everyday drinking wine, great for quaffing and I’ll bet outstanding with pizza — very much in the same vein as some of the top value Spanish wines we’ve offered recently.  At full retail, this is a roughly $20 wine; given our aggressiveness in jumping on this closeout, and the power of the Wine Guild, we can make you an amazing offer:

The only bad news is we got the last 3 cases, so you’ll need to act fast…

P.S.  We also got one case of the 2007 Feudi San Gregorio Greco di Tufo white.  This is one of my favorite Greco di Tufos, and I still have a few bottles of the 2006 in my cellar.  This is the same markdown and same price — if you have an interest in those let us know as well
