A Guild Favorite

This is a Guild favorite and I believe it is the first wine we have offered out for three consecutive vintages. Not only that, The wine Guild has exclusively bought out this wine every time we have offered it out.

So I know you Guild members who have bought this wine in past vintages will have no trouble re-uping for this vintages what I would like is for our new members to try a bottles or so of this and see what kind of wine constitutes a consensus of catharsis in drinking pleasure for our group.

To know me is to know that I love Burgundy (see the final note at the end of this e-mail for our grand Burgundy event) and this is one of the most reliably delicious and well priced Brugundies on the Virginia market every year. Not only that but our loyalty to the wine has garnered us a further discount to make it an even greater value proposition for every Pinot Noir drinking soul who enjoys membership.

In the 2006 vintage the Xavier Besson, Givry 1er Cru ‘Grands Pretans’ was a DEFCON 5 wine. The price has gone up a bit since then but we have been able to hold it at around $20 which is still a gratuitously low price for 1er Burgundy that is this good. Looking back at my notes from the 2006 write up, I think the best desciption I could cut and past into this e-mail was this:

This is great Burgundy, great Pinot Noir, and I will omit further descriptors, since as Faulkner wrote:
That was when I learned that words are no good; that words don’t ever fit even what they are trying to say at…I knew that fear was invented by someone that had never had fear; pride, who never had the pride…He had a word, too. Love, he called it. But I had been used to words for a long time. I knew that that word was like the others: just a shape to fill a lack; that when the right time came, you wouldn’t need a word for that anymore than for pride or fear.
…Or the 2006 Domaine Besson Givry 1er Cru Les Grands Pretans.

If the 2006 was a 10 then the 2008 is an 8 or 9 which is more than one can typically expect from a Pinot at this price and there are no further words for me to use to tell you that this is an unbelievable Pinot Noir/Burgundy that will blow away any, ANY, in its relative price point. Last of all, there are less than 10 cases available.
