Grenache Dinner At Ventana

Ventana owner Michael Fitzgerald says: Thanks in large part I suspect to the 2007 Rhone Valley wines, our appreciation for grenache is reaching the point of obsession. So when Genevolyn Steele from Republic National and I were contemplating what would make for an interesting wine dinner, it was Grenache that first came to mind.

And thus, it’s with great pleasure that I announce that Ventana’s first wine dinner EVER will feature a sure-to-be fantastic three course meal from our chef, Sebastian Jack, and several Grenache-based wines from around the globe. Eleanor from “In Vino Veritas” will be helping the effort, and yours truly will be…..doing whatever he can for the effort.

Date: March 16th (that’s a tuesday)
Price: $50.00 per person (pre-tax and Gratuity).

Cocktail/ Hors D’oeuvres will be served at 6:30, with dinner kicking off around 7PM.

Hors d’Oeuvres
Cheese tray
Escargot in serrano butter
Mini duck taco
Wine: Grenache blend from Provence

First Course
Smoked maquerel, fennel salad and grapefruit vinaigrette
or
Frog leg with Thai Chili, black garlic, purple endive salad
Wine: Jean Luc Colombo Les Abeilles Cotes du Rhone,
a ‘Little intervention” white Grenache blend from the Rhone
Chapoutier Cotes du Rhone, biodynamic Grenache blend from the Rhone

Second Course
Cauliflower molten cake
or
Braised rabbit with sage gnocchi and olives
or
Seared Monkfish, choucroute, Olive Veal sauce
Wine: El Puig Priorat, a strapping Grenache blend from Spain

Third Course
Semi sweet chocolate and praline entremet with thyme ice cream and sesame seed tuile
or
Bacon-Wrapped Apple Donut with Balsamic reduction
with coffee, if you like, or Chapoutier Banyuls, a rare, fortified Grenache from Roussilan for $5.00 upcharge
